Bio

* I grew up in the small town of Upland, Indiana, (population 2,000) as one of six kids. My father was an administer at Taylor University and my mother was a county health nurse.

I married my high school sweetheart, Patrick and we have been married 28 years. We have two wonderful boys, Greyson who attends UT and Sam who attends GHS. We also live with three dogs.

Hello Parents,

I just wanted to take a minute to fill you in on a few things.

First - I am really excited about being your child's teacher. We are learning each other's personalities and how to make this the best learning experience for everyone.

Second - Discipline to me should not be punishment but a learning experience. I have always patterned my classroom management from the book; Parenting With Love and Logic.  The premise of the book is to help children take responsibility for their actions.

We have discussed the fact that we all make choices (good and bad) and that each carries with it a consequence. (good and bad)

I let them know that making bad choices doesn't make them a bad person but that we need to learn how to make good choices. (Even as adults we need to learn this! I know I do!) The great thing about being 6 or 7 years old is that the consequences are so much smaller then when we make bad choices as an adult! (If you don't turn in work in 1st grade you may lose playtime, but as an adult we may lose a job.) You will receive a weekly progress report on behavior and academics. If you have questions about this report please don't hesitate to ask!

Third - I am a mother of two boys, so I will not be judging you or your child! I promise to love them and strive to create the best experience possible for them.

Fourth - We will have show and tell every Friday, so if your child has something they would like to share please send this on Fridays.

Last - I can be reached during my planning at school (10:30 -11:30).

School Phone - 638-6351      email - dickeyc@gcschools.net

 Many Thanks! Cathy Dickey
